ELECTION - Our constitution will hopefully be ready for this meeting. The association plans to hold elections each year for HALF of the executive. This year the positions of President, Publicity and a Director will be held and their term is for 2 years. The positions of Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer will be held in the fall of 2001. Any member in good standing may run for any position, even those holding other director positions. If for example the secretary runs for president and wins, then the position of secretary will be voted on also at that time.
If you wish to run or support any person for these positions PLEASE attend this clinic and election meeting and participate. Voting is only by those present. Voting to take place for the following positions: President - Publicity - Director (a NEW position). We hope that there is someone willing to run for the position of director. Most executive meetings are by conference call throughout the year.

Dear fellow members of EAHAC,
A while back, while reading an article on breeding, my curiosity was aroused by a reference to Sheila Varian's ten commandments for breeding. Sheila being one of the most successful and respected breeders of Arabians, I was eager to learn more about her views on the subject. I requested clarification from Sheila, via e-mail, and promptly received the following list of her recommendations. Having found her recommendations
highly relevant and inspiring, I would like to share them with you and all true lovers of the Arabian horse, dedicated to the preservation of the qualities that make it so unique.
Ed Yaghdjian - Secretary of EAHAC
Sheila Varian's Eleven Commandments For Breeding
1. Breed the horse you like not what you think others will like.
2. Be true to your ideals
3. Recognize you are breeding Arabians and stay within your interpretation of the breed standards.
4. Breed equally for breed type and performance qualities
5. Never forget, no foot no horse.
6. Always strive toward a horse that has disposition/usability plus beauty. Neither is good without the other ... However if I had to make a choice it would be to keep the disposition/useability.
7. Follow the lead your horses produce for you.... They don't all have to look alike but they must all have quality.
8. Breed forward, you should always be striving in each generation for improvement and more consistency.
9. It is not difficult to improve the get of a poor quality mare in one generation; it is not even difficult to improve the get of an average mare in one generation. It is difficult, however, to improve the get of an exceptional mare generation after generation. That takes real skill, knowledge, gut instinct and vision.
10. Don't be afraid to appreciate the qualities of other peoples horses, breeding is a competition within yourself not with others.
11. Consider your horses qualities before you consider his negatives. All horses have both. It is for you to determine how positive his good qualities are before you dwell on his negative aspects.

Something To Think About
The executive would like the Egyptian owners and breeders to think about the following idea. As we are continually growing, with members from across Canada, and in order to have better representation and a flow of ideas, we are considering having directors voted in for various regions. As the numbers in an area increase, then that area which could be several provinces, or only one province or even a part of a province could have more representation in the association. This person would be elected by mail in ballot and since most executive meetings are by conference call, then they would be included in the call. For a starter, it will be brought up at the October meeting that a director be voted in as of January 2001 to represent the western provinces from Manitoba to British Columbia. Please call any member of the executive to express your opinion, concern this idea.

Congratulations to all the members who had beautiful little foals this first year of the new century!
