Fall Clinic - Saturday Oct 18/03 Starting at 2pm

Introduction to Long Distance Riding

Bob Coleman of Cayuse Creek Ranch and Larry McMaster of the Competitive Trail Riding Assoc. have offered to give us a clinic on Long Distance Riding. This will include Competitive, Endurance and Ride & Tie events. This clinic will cover a variety of topics from the basics to the advanced. Taking of pulse and respiration, equipment and the rules and governing body will be some of the areas discussed, with even a hands-on part. If you know of someone who is not a member, but might be interested, please feel free to bring them along. The more the merrier.

From the North (Barrie, Orillia)

Take Hwy. 400 south to Hwy 9. Exit west on Hwy. 9 to Airport Road. Take Airport Road south to Hwy. 24 (at the flashing light). Take Hwy 24 west (right) through Erin, past Trafalgar Road (lights) to 4th line (at Denny's bus depot). Take 4th Line south (left) to 10th Sideroad (first intersection). Take 10th Sideroad west (right) to 9060 10th Sideroad (2nd driveway on right).

From the North (Mount Forest)

Take Hwy. 24 east from Guelph, through Ospringe (Hwy. 25 & 24) to 3rd Line (~1/2 km). Take 3rd Line south (right) to 10th Sideroad. Take 10th Sideroad east (left) to 9060 10th Sideroad (3rd driveway on left).

From the West (London) and East (Toronto)

Take 401(east or west respectively) to Hwy. 25 (near Milton). Take Hwy. 25 north through Acton to Ospringe at Hwy. 24 (about 25 km.) Turn right and take Hwy. 24 east one concession to 3rd Line. Turn right (south) on 3rd Line to 10th Sideroad. Take 10th Sideroad east (left) to 9060 10th Sideroad (3rd driveway on left).

West Nile

Jeannette Jardine of Saskatchewan has just informed us that her mare Zahara did not have the West Nile shot, and she got the disease. She was very sick for a while. Jeannette reported that even though several horses were vaccinated in her area, that some have died from West Nile. We are please to report that her mare is now on the mend and that she should be home soon from the Vet Clinic. Good luck Jeannette and Zahara! Does anyone else have any comments on West Nile or the vaccine?

Newsletter

We would like to put announcements of new foals or horse acquisitions, plus a possible short note on members, so that others can get to know the wide variety of Egyptian horse owners across Canada. Clinics

We are looking for suggestion for future clinics; so if there is something you would like to see discussed, please tell us. Also, if you can suggest a place and a name of someone to give the clinic please do so. Thank you to those who have come forward with some great ideas. WE NEED YOUR INPUT - NOW!

Election - To be held after the clinic at a short meeting

Each year we should be electing part of our executive. This year the positions of Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer are to be voted on. Executive members are elected for a 2-year term. Any member wishing to run for any of these positions please be present and have your name ready for nomination. Even if someone holds one position on the executive, they can allow their name to stand for a different executive position if they wish. If they are successful, then their executive position would then have to be voted on for the one year. The next year that position would be voted on again to keep with the idea of changing half of the executive every year.
