EGYPTIAN ARABIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION OF CANADA

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

TO EVERYONE, THEIR FAMILIES AND THEIR HORSES

NOTE: This newsletter and future ones are ONLY being sent to members and other interested people. If you know of someone who should or would like to receive a newsletter please contact us ASAP

We have just completed another great year. The association has produced its first Directory of Egyptian Owners across Canada. This directory was handed out across Canada at the Nationals, Regionals, Class A shows, Canadian Breeders Show, and many other events, as well as at the Egyptian Event and the U.S. Nationals. We have had two great clinics. One on Egyptian bloodlines and strains by Eric Lehmann of Stouffville ON. in April, and a second one in October on round-pen training and basic to advanced reining by Ed and Gary Yaghdjian of Pickering Horse Centre, Pickering, ON. We also had our first election since the idea to start the association took form.

There is a lot more events planned for next year, and we hope that you enjoy our next year and participate as much as possible. Some of the ideas for next year include of course a bigger and better directory; incorporation; draw for an oil painting donated by artist Cathy Rochon of Prince George, B.C. to aid in our incorporation fee; more clinics; possible a video disc and tape of members, their horses and farms; improved web site; and more ideas.

Directors-at-Large

Due to the large area of Canada and the fact that our members are spread out from coast to coast, the association has asked several Egyptian owners to become Directors-at-Large. These members are chosen from across Canada, and will assist in helping getting our message out to their areas, as well as providing a local representative for present and future members.

Atlantic Provinces Peter von Kummant 905-345-0528

Manitoba Dennis Wishnowski 204-785-8708

Saskatchewan Jeannette Jardine 306-771-2968

British Columbia Cathy Rochon 250-963-7248

We thank the above members for accepting this position and if anyone wishes to bring ideas forward, they can call any member of the new executive or any director-at-large. If you know of anyone who is not a member but wishes more information please give their names to any executive member or director-at-large. We need you and your ideas to help your association grow.

Incorporation - Barbeque and Painting Draw

At our last clinic, we had a barbeque, which everyone was charged $10. Gary Yaghdjian of Pickering Horse Centre not only provided the facilities and the reining clinic, he also catered a great barbeque and when it was all over, he donated all the money charged for the dinner towards our incorporation. A great big THANK YOU Gary!

The cost of our incorporation is about $600 and with Gary's donation of over $200, we are well on our way. We have had another member who is really excited about our association and has been with us right from the start. Cathy Rochon of Prince George, B.C. teaches art and has donated an oil painting to help us to raise money for our incorporation. We are planning to sell tickets to members and their friends and make a draw for this beautiful painting at our late summer 2001 clinic. This painting has a value of approximately $400. We hope that other members support this effort and purchase tickets. There will be only about 600 tickets at $1 each. Please call any director or any director-at-large for tickets to be sent to you. The members at the last meeting felt that rather than ask members for a donation towards our incorporation, that this draw might be a better way. THANK YOU Cathy! Call NOW for your tickets!!!

DIRECTORY 2001

Another directory of members, their farms and their horses is planned this year. We are planning to have it ready to distribute at the Egyptian Event in Kentucky in June, as well as at Regionals and National Arabian shows this year. All ads must be camera ready, plus an original photo (colour or B/W) must accompany all ads if there is to be a picture in the ad. All ads must have accompanying payment. This directory is not only a great inexpensive way to advertise your horses, farm and breeding program, but helps the association to let everyone know that we are here and that we have great horses in this huge country of the Maple Leaf.

The Directory will be 5.5 by 8.5 inches of very high quality paper and cover. It will be a Black & White Directory. Call Heather Pearson if you have any questions.

Advertising Rates and Rules - must be camera ready and with original photo

- Cheques must accompany all ads.

- Members - Full page ads $75.00

- Non-members can advertise at a special offer of $120.00 per page - If you wish to join, the membership fee is $50.00 for the year 2001, then it is only $75.00 per page

- Only Egyptian Arabians can be advertised

- Ads must NOT be folded and are to be sent to Heather Pearson before March 31st 2001 - if any questions or problems call Heather at 613-735-1831 right away.

-Other Commercial business ads (i.e. Grain Co., Insurance Co, Saddle Stores etc.) can place an ad for $100.

- Back inside cover $90 - members only

- Outside back cover $100 - members only - Already taken

Web Site

We are constantly adding new members and information. If you have any suggestions, please call Glenn Pearson and tell us how to improve our site. If you have your own web site, please provide a link to our association's web site. It would be greatly appreciated, and will make us all more accessible to the public.

Clinics for 2001

We are again looking at a spring clinic around April 28th to possible be held at Guelph University, and a late summer clinic and election to be held about Sept. 1st. at Les Wagschal's to consist of Western and trailering. Some of the other topics that have been suggested are AI, Photography and nutrition. If you have some suggestions please call us ASAP. In accordance with our constitution, the staggered election for Vice-president and Secretary will be held at the August clinic. If you wish to run for these positions or know of someone, please come to this meeting and nominate them. We also hope to have a potluck supper at this time.

Canadian Arabian News - December Issue

There are two articles in the latest News supplied by our members. One article is by Heather Pearson concerning our association and the listing of the Directors-at-Large. The second article is by Cathy Rochon and M.A.H.C. or Middle Age Horse Crazy. Cathy will be doing a number of these articles in upcoming issues. Keep up the good work Heather and Cathy.

Future Plans and Ideas

Video Tape and CD

The association would like to put together a library of videos of members, their horses and their farms. We would like interested members to send in a video tape of about 20 - 30 minutes. From this tape we will select up to 5 minutes of tape to help form a master tape. This master tape will be available to be sent out to anyone in the world requesting a copy for information on various lines and horses within our association. If this is successful, we will then press a CD for computer users, or possible usage on DVD players. We are looking at asking for videos to be sent in by the fall, say September 1st, 2001 and then we can go from there to produce the most professional tape we can. More information will follow in future newsletters. Call us if you have any suggestions or comments.

Photo Album

Another idea is a photo album. We would like to create several albums of members horses. These albums would be available for members to display at events across Canada and the U.S. Details are still in the planning stage, so if you have any suggestions call Heather Pearson with your suggestions.

NOTE: For those members whose e-mail we have, we are sending this newsletter both ways. If you prefer one method over the other please tell us.
